Biography
He studied painting under Władysław Łuszczkiewicz from 1861 to 1872 at the School of Fine Arts in Kraków. In 1873, he received a two-year scholarship to study abroad in Vienna under Eduard Peithner Lichtenfels and Carl Würzinger (until 1877). He exhibited extensively—in Kraków from 1863 to 1888, at the Society of Friends of Fine Arts in Lviv (1892), at the Krywult Salon in Warsaw, and in Dresden from 1882 to 1890. The artist’s paintings can be found, among other places, in Chicago, Stockholm, Chemnitz, Paris, and the Lviv Art Gallery. He painted landscapes—most often of the areas around Kraków—as well as battle scenes and genre paintings, in which he frequently included figures of horses and riders. Cossack figures appear repeatedly in his work.
