oil, canvas, dimension 55 x 70 cm, signed l. d. "Georg Carre"
Karl Julius Rose (Königsbruck 1828 - Munich 1911), who used the pseudonym Georg Carré or Carée and sometimes signed his paintings Antonio Rose, was a German landscape painter, a pupil of Hummer. He painted, above all, atmospheric alpine landscapes, but also took up marine subjects - usually with rough seas, the raging element of nature and water contrasted with overcoming boats and sailing ships. His marine paintings are characterized by extraordinary drama and expressiveness of representation.
