The photograph depicts the ceremony during which French General Maurice Gamelin (1872–1958) was awarded the Grand Ribbon of the Order of Polonia Restituta by Polish President Ignacy Mościcki. The ceremony took place on August 16, 1936, at the Royal Castle in Warsaw, during Gamelin’s official visit to Poland. General Edward Śmigły-Rydz, visible on the left side of the photograph, also attended the ceremony.
