20 zlotych banknote, 1982 – Series D – DESTRUKT – the so-called “butterfly”
A striking printing defect, colloquially known as the “butterfly”—due to an uneven excess of paper extending beyond the banknote’s standard dimensions. This defect occurs when individual banknotes are cut incorrectly from the sheet. Such banknotes should not enter circulation, which explains their current rarity and, consequently, the high level of interest in them among collectors.
The piece offered in this auction features an interesting variant: in the lower left portion, there is excess paper on the left and bottom margins, with printing marks visible on it.
A nice piece, with a crease in the lower right corner and folds in the field.
