20,000 złoty banknote, 1989 – R series – DESTRUKT – the so-called “butterfly”
A striking printing defect, colloquially known as the “butterfly”—due to an uneven excess of paper extending beyond the standard dimensions of the banknote. This defect occurs when individual banknotes are cut incorrectly from the sheet. Such banknotes should not enter circulation, which explains their current rarity and, consequently, the high level of interest in them among collectors.
The piece offered in this auction features an interesting variant: in the lower right corner, there is excess right and bottom margin—on which the missing portion of the reverse-side print is visible.
A nice piece, confirmed by a solid GDA grading note, with an EPQ annotation attesting to the exceptional quality of the paper.
