Biography
Tadeusz Popiel came from an artistic family - his brother, Antoni, was a sculptor. He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Cracow in 1876-1884 under Jan Matejko. He completed his studies in Vienna under Hans Makart, and later in Munich. In 1899 he made an artistic trip to Berlin, Copenhagen, Munich, Vienna and Prague. In 1899, he collaborated with Wojciech Kossak and Jan Styka to paint "Panorama Raclawicka." He won two gold medals at exhibitions in Paris (1890) and San Francisco (1894). He painted historical, religious, genre compositions and portraits; he also did mural painting.
