Saint Sophia of Rome in an iconographic representation with her daughters (Faith, Hope and Love - Pistis, Elpis and Agape), common in Christian tradition - the traditional depiction of the subject, however, has been enlivened by a subtle depiction of movement and a composition that emphasizes the bonds between the figures. Sophia, extending a protective gesture over her daughters, symbolizes maternal care and spiritual guidance; the three girls, clustered in a semicircle, face their mother, reinforcing the impression of unity and spiritual closeness. Positioned in the center, the daughter - most likely Love (Agape) - is depicted wearing a crown of flowers, indicating a special role in the personification of the most important of Christian virtues.
The painting is maintained in icon-like aesthetics, with clear contours, simplified facial anatomy and symbolically treated space. The background in gold and dark tones emphasizes the sacred nature of the representation. Subtle art nouveau influences can also be discerned: soft framing of the face and robes, which may resemble Art Nouveau styling, soft contours, subtle transitions of light and shadow.
Overall condition as seen in the photos.
