Along the bottom edge of the painting is an inscription made in pen and black ink, by the painter's daughter Jadwiga: I affirm the authenticity of the sketch of the late Jozef Chelmonski J. Chelmonska. On the back is a certificate of authenticity by Kazimierz Buczkowski and a sticker of the ABE GUTNAJER Art Salon. The painting has the opinion of Mr. Tadeusz Matuszczak dated 22.07.2020.From the expertise of Mr. Tadeusz Matuszczak: "The work fascinates, typical of Chełmoński's sketches, with the virtuosity of the painter's technique and the truth and simplicity of the depicted scene, imbued with a strong sympathy with nature and a poetic mood full of tenderness."
Józef CHEŁMOŃSKI (1849-1914)
He was one of the most outstanding painters of the 19th century. his first teacher was his father. He began his studies at the Drawing Class in Warsaw (1867-1871) and at W. Gerson's private studio. From 1871 to 1874 he studied at the Munich academy under A. Strähuber and H. Anschütz. In Munich he became associated with the Polish artistic colony centered around j. Brandt and M. Gierymski. He painted genre scenes, rushing horse-drawn carriages, landscapes. The originality and exoticism of his paintings ensured his success and numerous commissions, but unfortunately this lowered the artistic level of his works. However, after his return to the country and his renewed exposure to nature influenced the revival of his work. This period includes atmospheric, lyrical landscapes, sometimes enlivened by the motif of wild birds, and scenes emphasizing the relationship between man and nature.
