Italian master 17th Century

Mary is seated to the left of the centre of the painting in a red dress and blue cloak, with St. Joseph leaning on his cane behind her on the right. The infant Jesus sits on Mary's thigh and turns in profile towards the three kings from the East, who are bringing him their gifts. The eldest, aged king has taken off his crown and sceptre and is kneeling before the child. Next to him, the younger king bends down to Jesus and the youngest black king waits in the background on the left. A page accompanies the kings. Behind Mary and Joseph rises an ancient vault that serves as a stable; on the left, the view opens up to a wide landscape. The star of Bethlehem shines from the sky. Oil  on canvas 128 x 100 cm
