Biography
He began his art studies at the Kraków School of Fine Arts in 1865. He belonged to the circle of “Munich artists” alongside, among others, Ajdukiewicz and Sidorowicz—and continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts under Aleksander Wagner and Otto Seitz. Upon returning to Kraków in 1877, he studied until 1881 at the School of Fine Arts in Jan Matejko’s studio. He spent the years 1882–88 in Munich once again. While studying in Kraków, he traveled through villages, small towns, and manor houses. He painted genre scenes and landscapes, and in the homes of landowners, he primarily painted portraits of the owners and their families. His favorite subjects were views and landscapes of the Tatra Mountains and the Podhale region.
