Biography
Wladyslaw Slawny emigrated in 1931 from Lodz to Paris, where he devoted himself to photography. During World War II, he joined the Polish army in France and fought in the Battle of Narvik as a soldier of the Independent Highland Rifle Brigade. From 1945 he headed the photography section of "Gazeta Polska" published in Paris. In 1950 he came to Poland to form a team of photojournalists for the new illustrated weekly "World." He ran the magazine's photo department until 1957, when he decided to return to Paris. In France, he remained involved in photographic journalism, which he practiced in Polish newspapers and as a freelance photographer. In 1950, he became a member of the Polish Association of Photographers (later ZPAF), and was expelled from it on March 17, 1968.
