Jan Antoni Karczewski (Warsaw 1931–2017 Warsaw), Polish painter, member of the Association of Polish Artists and Designers (ZPAP), associate professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw from 1977 to 1981, and director of the Center for Contemporary Art at Ujazdowski Castle from 1986 to 1988. He came from a family with artistic traditions. He attended the Stanisław Staszic High School in Warsaw, and from 1950 to 1955 he studied at the painting department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. He received his diploma in 1956 from the studio of Prof. Kazimierz Tomorowicz. In addition to oil painting, he specialized in gouache, ceramic mosaics, mural painting, and color design in architecture and interior decoration. A long-time member of the Association of Polish Fine Artists (ZPAP): from 1961 to 1964, he served on the board of the painting section, and from 1964 to 1969, he was its vice president. In the 1970s, he was a member of the board of the Warsaw District of the ZPAP. From 1977 to 1981, he was an associate professor at the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, where he led the Studio of Problems in Painting in Architecture. In 1971, he participated in painting the ceiling of the Marble Cabinet at the Royal Castle in Warsaw.
