Duchoiselle, a pair of bronze sculptures depicting romantic scenes, 19th century, 25 cm

A pair of bronze sculptures with a dark patina depicting two couples in 18th-century attire, created by the sculptor Duchoiselle. The first work portrays a man wearing a wide-brimmed hat offering a small bouquet of flowers to a young woman wearing a bonnet. The second work depicts a couple in ceremonial attire, with the female figure wearing a veil and holding a small book, identifiable as a missal. Both circular bases bear Duchoiselle’s signature engraved in the metal. The figures are characterized by meticulous attention to detail in the drapery of their garments, the lace, and their expressions—a hallmark of the French Romantic style of the second half of the 19th century. Each group rests on an integrated circular bronze base, which in turn is mounted on a gilded wooden plinth decorated with a laurel leaf frieze and beaded molding. The casting features a high-quality finish with a deep brown patina that highlights the textures of the surfaces.
