Valmore GEMIGNANI
1879 Carrara - 1958 Florence
Italian sculptor and painter. The son of a stonemason. He attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence and became a pupil of Giovanni Fattori and sculptors Augusto Rivalta and Antonio Bortone. He made his debut in 1899 at the Florence Fine Arts Exhibition, where he also exhibited in 1901, 1903 and 1904. He also designed ceramics, made by the Cantagalli manufactory and exhibited in Florence in 1902. He exhibited at the Venice Biennale in 1901, 1903, 1912, 1914, 1922, 1936 and 1942, and was attracted to the art of the Florentine Renaissance, particularly the works of Donatello and Verrocchio. Beginning in 1906, he began traveling to Holland and Belgium. He then stayed in Germany, where he remained for about ten years and worked for Rosenthal. He had a studio in Berlini. When he returned to Florence in 1915, he was an established artist. After the war, he returned to travel and stayed in Argentina. In 1921, he returned to Italy.
