oil, canvas, 100 x 120 cm, signed p.d.: 'A. UMIASTOWSKI' 23
In the paintings of Andrzej Umiastowski, the human being occupies a paramount place. The artist has created his own poetics and style recognizable from the first glance. (...) In his compositions, we see a world devoid of the horror of today, a world of morality play, through which a whole pantheon of figures passes, containing a synthesis of our vices, ridicule and grotesque behavior. His paintings are a space where we see the relationship between seriousness and ridicule, between man and nature, love and indifference, where the essentials are adjacent to the meaningless. The artist aptly exposes our weaknesses, but it seems that his vision is still vivid and evocative, and most importantly, optimistic.
