Zbigniew Makowski one of the greatest Polish artists passed away from us in August 2019
The artist's friend Mariusz Hermansdorfer wrote about his work as follows: "Makowski's paintings and drawings are like a synthesis of many techniques and styles - those most contemporary and those that belong to an often forgotten tradition. Reminiscent of the old masters, the precision of their execution bridges the differences between the pointillist method and the graphic contours of forms, makes it possible to combine into a single composition several types of perspectives - real and inverted, linear and painterly, justifies the patination of new works, after all, so that they gain the aspect of things created years ago. [...] No one today already uses these labor-intensive, almost alchemical procedures, no one builds on a single color tone such rich and varied arrangements, but also no one else has made an equally creative attempt to combine history with today, the mythical times
with the era to come. For the most important thing in all of Zbigniew Makowski's work is that he creates a language with which he conveys universal truths, important especially now, when in the nervous run towards the future we pass the past too indifferently."
