A lovely piece of a rare Nike issue.
1931 is one of the most difficult coins of the Second Polish Republic to find in beautiful condition. Here it is in its natural, mint-like condition, with a distinct surface luster.
Nike was the first silver circulation coin of the Second Polish Republic minted at the Warsaw Mint. It is a numismatic piece of great iconographic beauty, whose reverse was designed by the famous sculptor Edward Wittig, who drew inspiration for the striding Nike from one of his own sculptures. Its issuance began in 1928, in conjunction with the mint in Brussels (characterized by the absence of a mark at Nike’s foot), and ended as early as 1932.
