oil on canvas, framed; dimensions: 18 × 25.5 cm (inner dimensions), 35.5 × 42 cm (including frame); signed: lower right “Wł. Chmieliński” Condition: very good Frame: richly decorated, gilded, classic

An atmospheric winter scene by Władysław Chmieliński—one of the most outstanding Polish genre painters of the 20th century. The painting depicts a sleigh ride—a dynamic composition featuring horses harnessed to a sleigh, racing through a snow-covered village. The composition pulses with movement, color, and light, while the bold brushstrokes lend the whole work a lively expressiveness. Chmieliński was a master of realistic landscapes and genre scenes, often inspired by the Mazovian countryside and everyday life. He captured the atmosphere of a bustling city just as easily as that of a nostalgic countryside. The painting is in excellent condition, mounted in a stately frame, and ready for display in any collector’s collection.
