Sign. AD: KASIULIS
Vytautas Kasiulis (1918-1995) was one of the most prominent Lithuanian artists working in Paris. Vytautas Kasiulis's paintings are distinguished by their lyrical, warm and elegant style, which combines the lightness of modernism with a decorative, almost theatrical visual language. His works usually depict musicians, performers, dancers, café scenes, and female figures, rendered with gentle humour and a poetic mood of everyday life.
Kasiulias is characterised by a soft palette, often based on combinations of earthy and pastel tones, and a free, gestural touch that creates a cosy, dreamy atmosphere. Lightness, rhythmicity and decorativeness prevail in the compositions, and the figures are treated in a stylized, sometimes playful manner.
In general, Kasiulis's paintings are characterised by optimism, elegance and inner warmth, which is why they are considered to be one of the most distinctive and recognisable expressions of Lithuanian émigré modernism.
