Thomas Gleb, L'habit du chemineau

Tomasz Gleb, born in 1912 in Zelów, died in 1991 in Angers. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Paris. From 1932 to 1950 he lived in France, where he returned - after a brief stay in Poland from 1950 to 1957 - fleeing communism. He engaged in easel painting, created murals, prints and sculptures, and also worked as a draftsman, architect, poet and tapestry artist. In 1959, he took up textile art. The artist's works enrich the collections of institutions primarily in France (they are in the Pompidou Center, among others). The artist has presented his works at many international exhibitions, and has been honored with various prizes and awards, including the Grand Prix National de Paris (1980) for a work made with the art of weaving.
