Stefan Wegner came from the Cracow artistic environment, where he received education in the spirit of Young Poland impressionist painting in the studio of, among others: Władysław Pankiewicz. In 1930, he moved to Lodz, where he revolved around Constructivists and experimentalists such as Władysław Strzeminski, Katarzyna Kobro and Karol Hiller. He was a member of the art group "Plastycy Nowocześni" (Modern Artists), formed on the initiative of the group "a.r." As a close friend of Strzeminski and co-founder of the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz, he was inextricably linked with the avant-garde art community. Together with Stanisław Fijalkowski, he created the project for the first edition of Władysław Strzemiński's "Theory of Seeing." Since 1957, he was a member of the "Fifth Circle" group together with Jerzy Nowosielski, Stanislaw Fijalkowsi, Irenesz Pierzgalski, Krystyna Zieliński and Teresa Tyszkiewicz.
He based his artistic views on rationalism and logic. The offered painting is a sentiment of the avant-garde tendencies propagated by Wegner, consisting of geometrized, interpenetrating planes arranged in a logical compositional order, emphasized by subdued colors, sometimes lasered on the subpainting.
