Biography
Studied painting at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts under Professor Stefan Gierowski and Professor Ryszard Winiarski (1985-90). After graduation, he worked at the Academy of Fine Arts as an assistant. Winner of the Jan Cybis Award for 2009. Initially, fascinated by Renaissance perspective, he painted architectural structures. Over time, these began to turn into increasingly abstract compositions, referring to the constructivism of the 1920s. He then began to paint recognizable company logos, which were themselves abstract in form. They were never exact copies, but the artist's painterly interpretations - familiar signs subjected to color changes and other modifications in various techniques. Maciejuk is also known for his depictions of characters from children's movies: he painted, among others, Uszatek Bear and Colargol, and later the very surroundings of these characters. For the artist, painting is not a tool of the surrounding world, but a method of reinterpretation and a field for experimentation with the familiar. Maciejuk's solo exhibitions have been held at Foksal Gallery in Warsaw, Arsenal Gallery in Bialystok, Warsaw's CCA Ujazdowski Castle and many galleries in the UK.
