"Duchowski is an artist of many scales and disciplines. At the dawn of his career, he designed the façade of the National Bank of Poland on Powstańców Warszawy Square (...). As a painter, he is an abstractionist with a predilection for structure, not shying away from (...) political references (the 1982 series of gouaches "War Alphabet," inspired by inscriptions on walls). He created installations and, on rare occasions, performances. He participated in the international movement of the continuators of constructivist thought and practice (...)". This is how art historian Maryla Sitkowska described Miroslaw Duchowski's creative profile. One can add many other creative activities of this artist. In 1989 he organized the country's first international exhibition of ecological art. For many years he has been an unquestionable authority in the field of art in public space and director of the institute dealing with such issues, operating at the Faculty of Painting of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. He worked on the interior design of Warsaw subway stations. Earlier in the 1980s, he was a very active artist within an informal creative group centered around the studio of Ryszard Winiarski, with whom Duchowski was then an assistant. He also took part in the artistic activities of the Group21 centered around the Studio Gallery in the late 1980s. Born in 1948 in Gdansk, Poland. Graduated from Painting at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in 1973. He completed his diploma with honors in the studio of Michał Bylina and an annex in Painting in Architecture with Jacek Sienicki. He was pro-rector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw in 1990-1993. He runs the Studio of Art in Public Space at the Faculty of Painting. Full Professor.
