Michal BORUCIÑSKI
1885 Siedlce - 1986 Warsaw
Studied at the School of Fine Arts in Warsaw under K. Stabrowski and K. Krzyżanowski (graduated in 1909), and then in Paris, Rome and Florence (until 1914). He painted portraits, landscapes and still lifes, including flowers, as well as paintings of historical subjects in the interwar period. His paintings were characterized by realism and decorativeness. His early paintings are "strong" in color, form and contour. Over time, the artist began to paint more softly, often using a sort of hazy outline and introducing softer, pastel colors. He also worked in drawing, book illustration, posters and stained glass. Before World War II, he exhibited in Warsaw's TZSP, the Institute of Art Propaganda and abroad, such as at the Autumn Salon in Paris in 1911; after the war, he exhibited at the All-Polish Art Exhibitions in Warsaw, among others. In 1950-1961 he was a lecturer at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts (from 1956 a professor). Paintings in museums in Dresden, Cracow, Varna, Warsaw and Vienna, among others. A permanent exhibition is dedicated to his work at the Regional Museum in Siedlce.
