For the first time in an auction offer, signed by the artist and confirmed by his daughter's seal, a work from the last year of Andrzej Wróblewski's life. "Profile of a Girl" represents the mature, synthetic style of the painter's late work and belongs to a sought-after area of his oeuvre - intimate gouaches and watercolors from 1956-1957. This unique work, from the artist's legacy, has a rich exhibition history. Beginning in 1958, when it was presented at an exhibition at the Central Bureau of Art Exhibitions in Katowice. It was then exhibited in the years: 1964, 1967, 1968 and in 1993. The latter exhibition at the Silesian Museum in Katowice was, interestingly, at the same time a presentation of graphic works by the artist's mother, Krystyna Wroblewska.

Wróblewski presented a synthetically framed profile of a female figure, built using cool blues and simplified color planes. The face, devoid of individual features and partially hidden under a blue veil, exudes strong psychological tension. The artist uses economical means: a flat patch of color and a definite outline. The intriguing headgear, resembling a softly wrapped headscarf, does not function as a realistic costume, but is part of the formal construction of the figure. Simplified, almost mask-like depictions of heads appear in Andrzej Wróblewski's late gouaches and watercolors from 1955-1957.

The distinctive color range seen in the work, including the color blue, are among the most recognizable elements of his painting. In the literature on the artist, blue is interpreted as a color associated with death, the trauma of wartime experiences or a state of suspension between matter and non-being. It is worth noting that in the last years of the artist's life, the cool blues lose their dramatic character, known for example from the earlier "Shots", becoming a more muted means of artistic expression. In the work on display, the blue organizes almost the entire construction of the figure, reinforcing its unreal, symbolic character.
Dating the work to 1957 has a special significance. It is the last year of the artist's life and at the same time a period of exceptionally intense formal search. In the atmosphere of political thaw after 1956, Wróblewski returned to his own independent painting language, departing from the earlier experience of socialist realism. Synthetic figures, "heads," simplified portraits and numerous gouaches and watercolors were created at the time, which the artist himself called "a humble viewing of life."
A year earlier, the first individual presentations of the artist's work take place: an exhibition of drawings at the Club of the Polish Writers' Union in Warsaw, organized by Andrzej Wajda, and a show at the "Simply" Salon in Warsaw. In the autumn of the same year, the painter takes a trip to Yugoslavia, which influenced further simplification of his formal language and greater freedom of figure handling. On March 23, 1957, Wróblewski dies during a solo expedition in the Tatra Mountains. His body was found by the Oswald Balzer Road, between Toporowa Cyrhla and Zazadnia, on the route leading to Morskie Oko.
