Andrzej Gieraga (b. 1934), Image CXXV, 1989

Painter, graphic artist, draughtsman, educator, cultural animator. From 1965 to 1970 he studied at the Faculty of Textile and Clothing at the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Lodz. In 1971, he defended his diploma with honors in the Painting Studio of Prof. Roman Modzelewski and in design from Associate Professor Antoni Starczewski (Carpet and Tapestry Design Studio) and Associate Professor Aniela Boguslawska (Decorative Textile Design Studio). Shortly after graduation, he was hired at his alma mater as an assistant in the Knitwear Design Studio. At the university, he held various positions along the way, including taking over the Third Studio of Painting and Drawing in the Department of General Artistic Education at the Faculty of Industrial Design in 1983, which he
he headed until his retirement in 2005. From 1994 to 2014, he worked with Radom University of Technology (now University of Technology and Humanities) as a full professor in the Department of Art, later the Faculty of Art, serving as head of the Department of Painting and Drawing from 2008. From 2014 to the present he has been a teacher at the Academy of Humanities and Economics in Lodz at the Faculty of Art. The artist lives and works in Lodz. Professor Gieraga, in addition to his pedagogical work, creative activity and activity in the ZPAP, took on the challenges of dissemination and popularization of art. He was, in 1983, the originator of the Władysław Strzemiński Competition for students of the State Higher School of Visual Arts in Lodz (now the Academy of Fine Arts), which is organized to this day, and was the supervisor for many years to come. It is impossible to list all the individual and group exhibitions in which Professor Gieraga participated. The first exhibition, the artist's debut took place in Lodz at Gallery 77 in 1970. The artist's works can also be seen in many museums at home and abroad. In 2016, the Museum of the City of Lodz organized a retrospective exhibition for the artist, entitled. Progressions, which showcased paintings and prints from 1972-2016. The exhibition was also accompanied by an impressive album.
