Andreas Schiller (Germany)
Untitled
oil on canvas, 150 x 50 cm
Andreas Schiller was born in 1963 in Berlin. In his works he uses the so-called azure technique, popular in Renaissance Venetian painting, which involves applying successive layers of paint.
The artist depicted an apple nine times, as a symbol of paradise lost and a state of innocence to which it is impossible to return. In three shades: green, blue and orange, using quick, even careless brushstrokes, he conveyed the sketchiness and ephemerality of the apple illuminated by different hues. Like Monet and his series of studies of the facade of Rouen Cathedral, the artist studies the nuances of chiaroscuro.
