The dominant golden-orange haystack is set against a backdrop of dark green trees and a blue sky. The individual elements of the landscape are not depicted in minute detail but are built up with broad, bold patches of color. The work was created after Lenica’s return to Poznań, and one year before he founded the 4F+R group. As such, it documents a moment when a recognizable natural motif is still present, but the way it is organized in the painting increasingly yields to a synthesis of form and the autonomy of color.
