Włodzimierz Szymański (1960-1923) studied at the Faculty of Painting of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, receiving his diploma under the direction of Ryszard Winiarski in 1987. In the same year he began teaching at his alma mater. Since 2002, he was also a professor at the Institute of Art Education at the Swietokrzyska Academy in Kielce. He has exhibited since 1986, had about 30 solo exhibitions and participated in dozens of group shows. In 1990, he received the Stanisław Wyspiański Young Artists Award. In his work, which includes both traditional forms (painting, drawing), as well as objects, installations, actions, etc., the artist was inspired by nature, its laws and phenomena, which he confronts with the products of culture, such as writing, numbers, charts. He often introduced elements of Far Eastern calligraphy into his works. The concentration and reflection visible in his works, the desire to explore the inner principles of the construction of forms brought him closer to the circle of inspiration of the so-called deep ecology. He was a practitioner and theoretician of this direction of philosophical and artistic exploration. In addition to his own art and teaching work, Szymanski was involved in the organization of artistic life. Since 1999, he was curator of the Ericsson Gallery in Warsaw, at the same time he was co-manager of the Aspekt Gallery at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, and co-organizer of plein-airs, exhibitions and symposia at home and abroad, such as "Fahnen in Dialog in Banners", Berlin 1997, Batuz Foundation art workshops, Dresden, Bad Nossen 2000, Wigry Workshops 2003 and others.
