Magda Bovska's work is divided into thematic cycles. Thus, there are cycles named "Sorrento", "You are not there", "Plants", "Body", "Couples" or "Billets" and "Wild". The themes and topics explored in the cycles are intertwined and have remained open for years, undergoing development.
WILD CYCLE
The latest series of paintings on canvas, as well as drawings, is thematically linked to the album "Wild," released in March 2023. I started the series in 2022. The tremendous emotional and meaningful load contained in the lyrics of the songs is the starting point of my search for a visual language in painting. I wanted to highlight the importance of the message of the lyrics, using words within the image itself.
As curator Adriana Usarek writes: "...a new series of painting works, characterized by minimalist form, built from typographic notation, the essence of which will be words fixed with paint on canvas. Works with the word "Wild" will be shown, varying in format and color. In some paintings the word will be multiplied, others will feature such slogans as: "Sparks," "The earth is on fire for me," "Great silence" or "Baltic." Emotions are contained in the letters, their expression, color and jitter. My songs go deep into the inner life, they often speak about difficult things, i.e. the subject of infertility and in vitro (The Great Silence), about the search for a wild particle in myself (Wild), about freedom above everything (The Earth Is Burning), or changing love (Baltic), etc. I look for a synthesis of these emotions and themes in painting.
I work mainly in the technique of acrylic on canvas.
Artist Bovska is also known as a singer, songwriter, musician and performer. In addition to the Academy of Fine Arts, she also graduated from the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, where she now teaches movement composition.
She has released five studio albums: Cactus, Snout, Billets, Sorrento, and Wild. Hailed as one of the most important debuts of 2016. The number of youtube views exceeds a total of 48 million and continues to grow. Bovska has performed at major festivals in the country, as well as abroad, and has had solo exhibitions. She is constantly and actively touring.
