Polish carbuncle from the period of the Bar Confederation, 2nd half of the 18th century.

Hand open, brass fittings. Crossed hackle, with whiskers. Shank of noble grade polished wood, with a head in the form of a schematic eagle's head in profile. The facings are riveted three times with the shaft of the head, edged with a brass band. The steel head, polished, of considerable curvature, profiled on both sides in a wide furrow and a narrow medial furrow. A long, double-edged pen, the hilt in line with the spine. At the height of the pledge, on the outer side, an etched motif of a Latin cross in an oval shield on a panoply background. This decoration can be interpreted as a declaration of an active stance in defense of the faith.
