Sabre for cavalry officers of 1845 model with older blade

Single-edged, curved, broad blade with broad cut-outs on both sides and a dorsal point. On the spine probably the inscription 'POTTENSTEIN', on the obverse the figure of the Madonna and the inscription 'Maria Mater Dei Patrona Hungariae Sub Tuum Praesidium Confugio'. Double cross and remains of inscription on the reverse. Wooden handle covered with fish skin and wrapped with twisted silver wire. Iron hilt. Rare asymmetrical openwork basket with floral decoration. Cut-out for portepee at the top of the basket. Steel scabbard with two lid-shaped projections and movable hanging rings. Austria, 18th/19th century, length 102 cm. Condition 2.
