Augustus Heinrich Petermann (1822–1878)—August Heinrich Petermann was a renowned 19th-century German cartographer who studied cartography at the School of Geographical Arts in Potsdam. He was the editor of the journal *Geographische Mittheilungen* and Stieler’s *Handatlas*. The Royal Geographical Society in London awarded him its Gold Medal in 1860.
