Son of a Russian cavalry officer. In 1900-1909 cadet. Since 1911 lieutenant. In addition to his military career, he developed a passion for painting. At the end of World War I, he entered the Ukrainian Academy of Fine Arts in Kyiv, where his first solo exhibition was held. In 1919, he was evacuated to Istanbul. He had three solo exhibitions there. In 1927, he moved to Rio de Janeiro. He had exhibitions in Washington, New York and London and annually in Brazil. He painted portraits, ethnographic scenes as well as icons. In his late period he created non-figurative paintings. His works are on permanent display at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Rio de Janeiro.
