Biography
Aleksander Roszkowski was born in 1961 in Warsaw. In 1985, he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, where he studied under Jacek Sienicki and Zbigniew Gostomski. He received his diploma from the Department of Painting in 1985. He has participated in
in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Poland and abroad. Two years after graduating, Aleksander Roszkowski received two honorable mentions at the 13th Jan Spychalski National Painting Competition in Poznań. He was also awarded a prize at the “Arsenał 88” exhibition. What distinguishes Roszkowski’s art is his exceptionally expressive creative method and his distinctive, unique color palette, achieved by applying successive layers of paint. The artist’s early canvases were classified within the “New Expression” movement, which was popular at the time. By the end of the 1980s, Roszkowski had begun creating monumental figurative compositions depicting human figures in canonical scenes, such as The Crucifixion. Aleksander Roszkowski’s most recent paintings lean more toward geometric abstraction. However, instead of the formal purism typical of this movement, the artist’s canvases are painted expressively and feature a rich texture that lends them a distinctive sense of volume.
