World War I badge in the form of a Polish crowned eagle with outstretched wings, behind it a pair of crossed sabers. Under its claws is a sash with the inscription "God Save Poland."
This type of eagle is mentioned in Tomasz Zawistowski's book "Polish Eagles for Caps in 1900-1917" on pages 162-164. The eagle was probably produced around 1916 in Poland and widely distributed.
This type of eagle was used by the Polish Legions under the Austrian Army in World War I, by Polish soldiers during the Greater Poland Uprising of 1918-1919, in the Polish-Bolshevik War of 1919-1921, and by civilians as a manifestation of the Polish struggle for independence.
