Rare ducat of Francis Xavier of Saxony (regent of Saxony 1763–1768), struck at the mint of Dresden in 1768.
Variety bearing the initials EDC of the mintmaster Ernst Dietrich Kroll.
Following the death of Frederick Christian, whose reign lasted only two months, Xavier assumed the regency on behalf of the young Frederick Augustus III. This period was marked by the difficult recovery after the Seven Years’ War. Xavier pursued reforms and placed strong emphasis on the education of the future ruler.
