Thalers of Thorn from the reign of Sigismund III Vasa rank among the most representative municipal issues of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth from the first half of the 17th century. They combine elaborate royal iconography on the obverse with a manifestation of the city’s autonomy and importance on the reverse. The present date is rare, rated R3 in Edmund Kopicki’s catalogue and an even higher R4 in Corpvs Nvmmorvm Civitatis Thorvnensis.

A rare Thorn thaler of Sigismund III Vasa dated 1630. An impressive municipal issue featuring a representative portrait of the monarch and the characteristic angel supporting the coat of arms of Thorn. Despite traces of former mounting, the coin retains a very attractive overall appearance and considerable collector appeal.
