Bohemia, Wenceslas IV, halberd (1383-1384), men. Kutná Hora.
Av. [RE]X◦B - OEMIE, bust of the king wearing a crown to the right. Rv. Two-tailed lion in crown. Silver, 0.44 g, 13.4 mm. Castelin ČDM 31.
Condition III, patina. The most beautiful coin of the Czech late medieval period, due to the elaborate image of the king and his robes. It was introduced in 1383, and the king set severe penalties for those who would not accept it as 1/12th of a penny. However, these efforts were unsuccessful, and just a year later a new haler issue was introduced with an official rate of 1/14th of a penny. |
