Raphael Józef Czerwiakowski (1743-1816) called the father of Polish surgery - anatomist, surgeon, obstetrician. Inventor of new surgical methods and many surgical instruments, precursor of orthopedics. Creator, professor of Poland's first department of surgery, obstetrics (formerly anatomy) where he was the first lecturer to teach medicine in Polish.
