A unique, interesting album containing a wide range of information about the representatives of Fauvism and their works. The text is supplemented by numerous colour illustrations.
Fauvism (fr. Les Fauves - wild animals, predators) is a movement in French painting of the early 20th century, characterised by very lively and detached from reality colour schemes. Together with expressionism, it initiated the 20th century revolution in art.
The author of this study, Jean Leymarie, reminds us that Fauvism is not only a product of instinctive violence, a kind of "trial by fire", but also an expression of penetrating intelligence and sensitivity.
