Historical novel depicting the dramatic siege of the Pauline monastery at Jasna Gora by the Swedish army during the Deluge. The author, combining literary fiction with historical document, creates an evocative portrait of Prior Augustyn Kordecki - the spiritual leader and hero of the defense of the monastery. Kraszewski, with a sense of the era and emotions, captures the atmosphere of the siege and the spiritual strength of the monastery.
