EL Warsaw. Editorial. Janusz M. Szymanski. 4. brochure.
Nos. 1-16: 1990-1997 [italics: 1998]. pp. 49, [3]; 46, [4]; 58, [2]; 158, [2]; 110, [4]; plates in each issue.
Very good condition. Publisher's set of a semiannual magazine standing at a high editorial level, edited and published by Janusz M. Szymanski. The name of the magazine "El" - is a spelling abbreviation of the term "ex libris". The nature of the magazine is specified by the imprint in the editorial footer: "A periodical published twice a year, dedicated to the promotion and problems of contemporary Polish artistic exlibris, the history of the Polish book mark and collector issues." The texts were printed mainly in German, also in Polish and English; summaries in Polish were included. The journal was published in 100 numbered pieces. The first two issues of the set offered here have entries in the place for the piece number: "%" and "author's", all others have the same fixed number. The last notebook was published after the editor's death, through the efforts of his widow and friends; it bears the date 1997 and number 16 (2/97). In fact, it came out late in 1998 and was dedicated to the memory of Janusz M. Szymanski. Combined pagination was used: at first separate for each of the first three annuals (Nos. 1-2, 3-4, 5-6), then for issues 7-12 and 13-16.
A great asset of the magazine was the original artwork added to each issue. Most were prints by living artists and these were signed in handwritten pencil by the creators. Ex-librises predominated, and a few small graphic forms of a different nature also appeared. Metal techniques, lithography, woodcut, linocut were represented. In total, the "El" contained 131 such works placed in the text on pastedowns or reflected directly on plates. The authors of the original graphics are: Wojciech Luczak, Eugeniusz Get-Stankiewicz, Wojciech Jakubowski, Zbigniew Janeczek, Andrzej Szklarczyk, Zbigniew Dolatowski, Teofil Jóźwiak, Łukasz Rogiński, Stanisław Dawski, Hanna Głowacka, Stasys Eidrigevicius, Czesław Woś, Zbigniew Ogielski, Halina Pawlikowska, Jan Sawka, Zygmunt Waśniewski, Janusz Halicki, Paweł Frąckiewicz, Jerzy Miller, Stefan Łukaszewski, Jan Maciej Kopecki, Bogusław Brandt, Piotr Naszarkowski, Henryk Feilhauer, Alina Kalczyńska, Czesław Borowczyk, Andrzej Kalina, Teresa Wojciechowska, Marek Sak, Tadeusz Szumarski, Ryszard Stryjec, Zdzisław Maj, Henryk Płóciennik, Zdzisław Maj, Jerzy Jarnuszkiewicz, Stanisław Wejman, Janusz Karwacki, Tytus Wenhrynowicz, Franciszek Bunsch, Magdalena Hoffmann, Małgorzata Hołówka, Edward Kuczyński, Witold Warzywoda, Andrzej Bortowski, Zygmunt Kotlarczyk, Jan Walkiewicz.
