Johann Friedrich Ferdinand Schumann founded a porcelain factory in 1827 on the Kehnert estate near Tangerhütte. Five years later, he purchased a plot of land in Moabit, a suburb of Berlin. In 1834, production began at the new factory there. In addition to manufacturing porcelain, the factory also painted porcelain purchased from another Berlin manufacturer, KPM.
Schumann’s factory quickly became a renowned producer of artistic, high-quality porcelain, offered at affordable prices. In 1835, the business was taken over by the owner’s son, Friedrich Adolph Schumann, who ran the company until 1851. From 1841 onward, the factory operated under the name Porzellan-Manufaktur von F. A. Schumann & Sohn.
At the 1844 trade fair in Berlin, the Schumann factory was awarded a gold medal. Its products were compared to those of the royal manufactories. Difficulties began to arise following the 1848 revolution, as well as due to the emergence of new competitors on the market.
The Stadnicki coat of arms, granted on January 14, 1783, is a Galician-Austrian count’s variant of the Stadnicki family coat of arms, derived from the former Drużyna / Szreniawa coat of arms without the cross. After the First Partition, some of the former magnate and landowning families from the Galician territories sought formal confirmation of their status within the Habsburg Monarchy. It is in this context that the grant of January 14, 1783, should be understood, as it conferred the rank of count upon the family and a new, expanded form of the coat of arms.
According to heraldic studies, the first version of this coat of arms and the title of Graf von Stadniki-Stadnicki were granted to Antoni and Feliks Stadniccy on January 14, 1783; based on their previous dignities in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, a Galician charter from 1775, and their declared loyalty to the imperial house. Piotr Stadnicki was subsequently granted the same coat of arms and title on December 12, 1788, also citing his kinship with Antoni and Feliks.
Historically, the Stadnicki family belonged to the old noble families of Lesser Poland and Red Ruthenia, with a lineage dating back to the Middle Ages, numerous local officials, and substantial estates. Austrian grants from the late 18th century transformed the family’s former Polish noble status into a count’s title recognized by the Habsburg monarchy. In the 19th century, members of various branches of the Stadnicki family were already active as part of the Galician aristocracy: landowners, officials, political activists, and members of provincial and parliamentary institutions.
