The simple yet original product shows ORNO's characteristic love of basic goldsmithing techniques, for example, punching the scoop with a metal stamp thanks to which a rough expressive surface was obtained. In a similar vein, the handle of the spoon was also made of twisted wire and the handle in the form of "curls" made of cut and rolled sheet metal. The design of the spoon embodies ORNO's love of artistic blacksmithing, art dec simplicity and folk art in the characteristic manner of the 1950s. The teaspoon's design appears in the ORNO Book, the cooperative's earliest created catalog, a piece of which is in the Warsaw Museum.
The spoon is unsigned. Overall length 14.5 cm
weight: 17.8 grams
ORNO Work and Handicraft Cooperative - founded in 1947 by Romuald Rochacki restored functional beauty in ruined Warsaw and beyond. The factory's mission was embodied in its name taken from Latin, in which "orno" means "to decorate." The simple and expressive forms of ORNO's products were appreciated by both state institutions and individual customers. One of the best-known admirers of ORNO's aesthetics was Joanna Chmielewska, whose orno ring with coral became an important plot in her crime novel "Side Roads."
