Eugene GALIEN-LALOUE [1854-1941].

He came from a poor Parisian family. After the death of his father, Charles Laloue, Eugene, as the oldest of nine siblings, had to abandon and help support the family. He enlisted in the army in 1871, and after the war began working as an illustrator for the French Railway. He returned to Paris, where he painted vedutas in his spare time. He first showed his work in 1876 in Reims, and just two years later showed at the Paris Salon, where he returned with views of Paris AND landscapes of Normandy until 1889.

After the death of his wife, Flore Bardin, in 1887, he moved with his son Fernand to Fontainbleau. There, in 1992, he married Flore's sister, Ernestine Bardin. Around 1900, they returned to Paris, and Eugene again began to exhibit his work, first at the Salons, then throughout the country.

Eugene lived in Paris until 1940, when the evacuation of the city forced him to flee to Bordeaux. He died a year later, on April 181941,

Galien-Laloue created works under many pseudonyms, including: Lievin, Galiany, and Dupuy. He most often used gouache and oil paints. He left countless Parisian vedutas that document the life of the city in the late 19th and first half of the 20th century.
