Biography
Graphic artist, illustrator, and cartoonist. After graduating from the High School of Fine Arts in Warsaw in 1992, he began working as an artist for the monthly magazine *Nowa Fantastyka*, while also taking on commissions from advertising agencies. From 1995 to 2000, he published his comics and illustrations in the magazines *Fenix*, *Magia i Miecz*, *Złoty Smok*, and *Czas komiksu*. Starting in 1995, Piotr Kowalski, together with director Marek Wortman, created the animated series *Ucieczki* for Channel 1 of Polish Television. His comic *Silver Eye*, published in 1997 in the magazine *Kawaii*, is considered one of the first Polish mangas. In 2001, he debuted his original four-volume comic series *Gail*, published by Egmont Polska and promoted alongside Grzegorz Rosiński’s *Western*. In 2006, he began collaborating with the French publisher Le Lombard, which publishes the series *La Branche Lincoln*, created by Kowalski in collaboration with Emmanuel Herzet. In the following years, the artist stopped drawing for advertising agencies to devote himself entirely to comics—he illustrated *Urban Vampires* and *Dracula L’Immortel*, and in 2011 he made his debut on the American market with the miniseries *Malignant Man*—he began collaborating with Man of Action and the American publisher Image, releasing the series *SEX*, which is published in the United States and the United Kingdom. He was the first Pole to collaborate with Marvel, creating the Marvel Knights miniseries *Hulk* (2014) and contributing to *The Dark Tower: The Drawing of the Three*, based on the novel by Stephen King.
