[Napoleonic Period] –“I Die for My Country.” New York, n.d. Published by S. Herrmann. Chromolithograph measuring 50.5 x 38 cm.
A large patriotic print, intended to be framed and hung on the wall. It depicts a soldier heroically taking the banner from a fallen comrade (wearing a Krakus cap), against a backdrop of a burning city and charging troops. This is a reprint of a composition originally published in Berlin in the 19th century, based on a work by Franz Xaver Krebs ( 1770–1845), a German painter. The surface of the print shows some wear, and the edges have creases and tears; otherwise, it is in good condition.
