Józef HOLLAK (1890-1949), Jasna Góra album of woodcuts, 12 pcs.

Size 11 x 19 cm, 11 pcs. + 1 piece on the cover.

Józef Hollak (born 1890 in Yakimovice in Volhynia, died June 5, 1949 in Czestochowa) - Polish stage designer, graphic artist and painter.
Hollak was a graduate of one of Kyiv's high schools, then took up studies at the Strogonov Central Art and Industrial School in Moscow, where his teacher was Stanislav Noakovsky. He graduated from it with honors. Independently, he attended an agricultural academy in that city. After receiving his diploma, he became a decorator at a Moscow theater run by Konstantin Stanislavsky. He took part in World War I, at the end of which he retired to civilian life and in 1919 found employment as a stage designer at Kyiv's Young Polish Theater, working there until his move to Warsaw in 1921. From 1925 to the following year he had an engagement as a stage designer at the Revived Theater, and from 1930 to 1933 at the capital's Ananas Theater. Since 1944 he lived in Czestochowa, and took a position there as set designer and artistic director of the local "Chochlik" Puppet Theater.
Hollak was also involved in interior design, including designing the pavilion for the General National Exhibition (Poznań, 1929) and the spa pavilion at the Wroclaw Exhibition of the Regained Territories in 1948.
As a graphic artist, he made illustrations for magazines during his stay in Kyiv in 1919-1921, ex-librises, advertising designs and posters, but above all he created linocuts, drypoints and woodcuts. Their subjects were often the old towns of cities (Kyiv, Vilnius, Warsaw) or monuments. In addition, he specialized in miniature painting. He participated in exhibitions, including those of the Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts.
He was married to actress Janina Hollak.
