Jan Matejko's drawing was created in the year of the artist's participation in the opening of the tomb of Casimir the Great at Wawel Cathedral (June 14, 1869). At the time, he painted the picture Interior of the Tomb of Casimir the Great.
The drawing comes from the collection of Dr. Lech Siuda (1909-1997). He was a participant in World War II, a doctor aboard the transport ship MS Sobieski. Later, throughout his life, he worked in Buk. His passion was collecting Polish art.
